How Much Dental Implants

Dental implants are one of the most popular treatment options for missing teeth, and for good reason. Unlike dentures or dental bridges, dental implants provide a permanent solution that look and feel just like your natural teeth. The only drawback? The process for having the dental implant placed is considerably longer, and as a result, the cost is also more than other treatment options. A dental implant will typically cost around $3,000-$4,500, however, the total cost will depend on several factors, including how many implants are required, what type of material is used, whether or not additional procedure are necessary as part of the overall treatment plan, and what type (if any) dental insurance you have.

If you are considering having dental implants placed but are unsure or concerned about the time and cost involved, please refer to the following.

Breakdown of Costs

In general, you can expect the following costs and steps to occur during the dental implant process:

  • Initial Consultation: It will be necessary to perform a thorough examination prior to placement of your dental implants. During this appointment, we will evaluate your overall oral health to determine what, if any, underlying issues caused the loss of your tooth or teeth. This appointment will also require an X-Ray or other diagnostic exam to ensure that there is enough jawbone remaining to support a dental implant. The cost of this appointment typically ranges from $50-$200.
  • Tooth extraction: If it is necessary to have a tooth extracted prior to placement of your dental implant, the average cost of doing so is between $150-$650 per tooth.
  • Dental bone graft: If there is not enough jawbone to support a dental implant, a dental bone graft may be required, which typically costs between $200-$1200 depending on the type of grafting material used.
  • Dental implant placement: The remaining costs of having your dental implant placed will include initial placement of the titanium post into your jawbone, placement of the abutment, and placement of the crown.

When considering the cost involved in dental implant treatment, it is important to keep in mind that the procedure occurs over several months. Although this extended treatment may seem like a drawback, it comes with the added benefit of allowing you to pay for the procedure over a period of time, instead of all at once.

Dental Implants are a Long-Term Investment

The cost involved in having dental implants placed is one of the biggest concerns our patients have. If you are debating whether or not you should have dental implants, opt for dentures or a dental bridge, or simply not address the issue of your missing tooth or teeth, remember that dental implants will provide you with a long-term solution that will significantly reduce your risk of developing additional oral health issues that can develop as a result of missing teeth that are not replaced. It is also important to remember that there will be less frequent maintenance and replacement costs involved as compared to dentures or dental bridges, which are treatment options that may cost less up front, but be more costly in the long run.
