Why do I need a periodontist?

A periodontist specializes in the health of your gums and the bone that supports your teeth. If you have been referred by your dentist to Dr. Zalewsky and Dr. Hoge, it is because your mouth shows signs of periodontal disease or you need a dental implant.

Is this office a dental spa or boutique practice?

Our facility is designed to provide needed personalized dental treatment in a relaxing, comfortable environment. We offer extra amenities you may not have experienced in a dentist’s office before, such as complimentary refreshments, music, private rooms, and naturopathy.

Is sedation dentistry available?

Yes. We use specialized local anesthesia and sedation methods (including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation options) to make all procedures as comfortable and anxiety free as possible for our patients.

My gums or teeth hurt – can I be seen today?

We will make every effort to see emergency patients the same day. If this is impossible or it is after hours, we will make room for you as early as possible the following day.

Does your office perform tooth extractions?

Yes. We use careful methods to extract teeth without damaging surrounding gum or bone tissue, with as little discomfort as possible for the patient.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant replaces not just the surface of a tooth like a crown does, but replaces the entire root with a titanium post that is then covered with a replica of your lost tooth. This prevents the empty socket from losing bone and causing adjacent teeth to also be lost.

Does your office perform tooth cleanings?

Yes. We do regular dental maintenance as well as periodontal maintenance, and our hygienists can clean your teeth and gums at your routine dental visits.

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is an ongoing infection of the gum tissue. Left untreated, it can lead to bleeding gums, loose or lost teeth, and bone loss in the jaw. Fortunately, most periodontal disease can be treated, arrested, and even reversed by your periodontist.

Does periodontal treatment involve surgery?

There are many treatments for gum disease, including both surgical and non-surgical options. Your doctor will help you decide which treatment is right for you based on the advancement and severity of the disease.

Can I receive periodontal treatment if I am pregnant, have a heart condition, or have high blood pressure?

Yes, yes, and yes. Make sure you list your condition on your medical history form, and our doctors will work to find a safe, effective treatment for you.
