All on Four Dental Implants Frequently Asked Questions
As we age, our teeth can begin to fail. Tooth loss is actually a very common reality for a lot of patients but fortunately, there are a number of solutions so you are sure to find one that will work for you! Dental implants are among the more costly restorations but they are also the most natural-looking and the most durable. If you are missing most of your teeth on one or both arches, individual implants may not be practical, but an implant-supported denture could be the way to go.
An all on four is an implant-supported, fixed denture. Below, we will review some frequently asked questions regarding all on four dental implants.
What is an All-on-4 dental implant? It is a fixed, dental prosthesis that works to replace all of the teeth on one or both arches of your mouth.
Who can have All-on-4 dental implants? Any healthy patient who is missing all or most of their teeth either on one arch or on both arches is a candidate for this procedure.
How do All-on-4 dental implants differ from traditional dentures? While an all-on-4 is a type of denture, it is screwed into implants and can’t be removed except by a Dentist. Traditional dentures are removable for cleaning and maintenance.
What is the success rate for All-on 4s? Studies show a 98% success rate.
Do All-on-4 dental implants look natural? The All-on-4 dental implant procedure uses porcelain teeth and looks incredibly natural. Not only do they look natural but they feel and function just like your natural teeth did. No one will know you have an all-on-4 denture unless you tell them.
How long does the All-on-4 dental implant surgery take? Surgery can take up to three hours per arch, more if you are receiving additional implants.
Why do I have to wear a set of temporary teeth the day my implants are placed instead of the permanent denture? As with any surgery, you will need some time to heal. Depending on the extent of your extraction and/or implant placement surgery, you may require up to six months of healing time. Any swelling will subside while you heal and once your implants are fully integrated with your jaw bone, you will be able to have your permanent denture set!
What type of professional cleaning will I get after my All-on-4 implant is placed? You will be able to brush your denture twice daily just like you did your natural teeth. Your professional cleaning will be a bit more extensive. Your doctor will remove your denture and the implants will be cleaned.
Where are the dentures made? Some offices are able to complete your All-on-4 in-house from start to finish. Others utilize dental labs to create your new smile.
