LANAP & LAPIP in Washington DC & Alexandria VA
Laser gum treatment can help stop the progression of gum disease and save teeth or dental implants.
Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is the result of ongoing infection in the gums. Many factors can contribute to the development of infection, including poor dental hygiene, dry mouth, smoking, genetic factors, and more.
Gum disease can cause pockets to form around teeth, creating a haven for bacteria. This contributes to the deterioration of the gums and underlying jawbone, eventually leading to tooth loss.
LANAP is a laser treatment which can be used around natural teeth to fight gum disease and eradicate infection, leaving healthy gum behind and minimizing the pockets that form around the teeth by encouraging the gums to reattach to the sides of the teeth. The laser can restore gum health without the need for surgery or stitches in the gums.
LAPIP is a similar treatment used when gum disease exists around dental implants (known as peri-implantis). Left untreated, this form of gum disease can lead to dental implant failure. The goal of LAPIP treatment is the same as that of LANAP treatment – to remove diseased tissue and create healthy gums and bone that keeps teeth or implants firmly anchored.
